at ONE, Shanghai, 2013.
I used two light sources for this work. One of them is a strobe light to flash quicker than usual. This strobe light is in a diffuser and repeatedly switched on and off faster than the human eye can detect. This results in the light appearing to be constantly on but the balance of the time the light is on and off is controlled in different cycles.
The other one is a video projector. This is called DLP (Digital Light Processing) and it looks like just a white light projected but actually sometimes red light is projected and at other times other single colour like green or blue light is projected. By projecting all the single colours at the same spot, the human eye recognises them as a combined colour. If they are not projected at the same spot, a different colour will be seen.
Because One is located next to the IMG SRC Shanghai studio, I could use all their specialist equipment and so the project benefitted as a result.
I hope you enjoy and discover many things in my work.
